Don 2 Takes Heavy Hit In Week Three

Don 2 fell heavily at the start of its third week as it collected around 75 lakhs approx on its third Friday. The collections are 80-85% down from last Friday.

This was mainly due to the release of Players which had a huge release taking away a lot of the screen space but Don 2 is likely to show a huge jump on Saturday and Sunday and may take its weekend business to around 4 crore nett.

The lifetime business of the Hindi version is unlikely to go over 110 crore nett though the film is likely to be on a steady run from week 4 onwards.

Mumbai, Jan 6 (IBNS): Salman Khan has been conferrred The Most Profitable Actor (India) by ETC Bollywood Business Awards, while Shahrukh Khan has bagged for The Most Profitable Actor (Overseas) award.

India’s first Bollywood channel ETC is all set to unveil the second ETC Bollywood Business Awards on 9th January.

Of the approximate 120 films released this year 5 films (Ready, Bodyguard, Singham, RA.One and Don2) saw domestic box office collections of more than INR 100 crores each; while some more, most notably The Dirty Picture (INR 80 cr), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (INR 92 cr) and Rockstar (INR 67 cr) came close.

This year also included quite a few hits and successes that have raked in the moolah. Bollywood collected a total of INR 1740 crores from the Indian BO. Add the revenue garnered from overseas and satellite rights and it goes up to a whopping INR 2590 crores!

With domestic BO collections of 2 hundred crores plus movies under her belt, Kareena Kapoor emerged as the unquestionable money spinner female actor this year.

“Receiving an award wherein you are being adjudged considering the economic quotient as a cornerstone for mapping the success, gives you a sense of pride. I’ve always maintained that commercial success is as important as the critical success of a movie. A commercially successful movie pays evidence to the fact that viewers loved watching your movie," said Kareena on being presented the ETC Most Profitable Actress Award.

"I appreciate the initiative, ETC Bollywood Business Awards, which recognizes the awardees by evaluating BO performance. I thank my viewers, people who I have worked with and ETC for appreciating my work and giving its due recognition,” she said.

While Salman Khan won the ETC Most Profitable Actor (India) Award, his arch nemesis the King of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan won the ETC Most Profitable Actor (Overseas) Award.

“Now I can safely say ‘har mulk ki public mujhe dhoondti hai’”, quipped the Don Khan, on receiving the ETC Most Profitable Actor (Overseas) Award.

On receiving the ETC Best Marketed Movie of the year Award and the ETC Highest Single Day Collection Award, both for RA.One, SRK said, “RA.One, Bollywood’s most expensive movie was my dream project. It feels great that my long cherished dream has been applauded by the viewers and moreover acknowledged by ETC Bollywood Business Awards; which gives its verdict only on the basis of Box Office collections. These two awards are a reply to all the naysayers who tried to discredit my film.

"Allah has been very kind to me and helped me to entertain my audiences and it is quite literally my audience’s love that has fetched me these awards. Inshallah! I’ll continue to entertain my audiences and make it to this award in years to come.”

Speaking about this unique initiative Anurag Bedi, Business Head, ETC, said, “We started ETC Bollywood Business Awards last year, after having identified the need to evaluate Bollywood on the basis of commerce. From the first look of a film to interacting with actors, directors, producers, marketers, musicians to bringing out BO reports – with every film we undertake a journey as intense as the filmmakers."

ETC Bollywood Business Awards have increased the number of categories from 13 last year to 18 this year.

Innovative categories include Most Popular Trailer, BO Surprise Hit of the Year, and Excellence in International Distribution et al.

It’s been a blockbuster Diwali for Shah Rukh Khan down the decades thanks to Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000), Kal Ho Na Ho (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), Don (2006), Om Shanti Om (2007) and last year, RA.One.

The Badshah has also reigned during Christmas with hits like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Rab Ne Bana De Jodi (2008) and lately, Don 2 (2011) that is reportedly marching towards the Rs 100 crore mark. But this is the first time he has laid claim to Eid, after Wanted (2009), Dabbangg (2010) and Bodyguard (2011) made it Salman Khan’s festival date. Reportedly, he has locked on Eid 2014 as the release date of his Rohit Shetty-directed romcom, Chennai Express.

“The date was announced by the media,” says the amused star. “We’re still working on the script. The first half has been locked, but we have yet to sit in on the second half. I’ve been so busy with RA.One and Don 2, I just haven’t had the time. At the moment, we don’t even know when we are starting the film, so it’s unlikely that we’d know when we are finishing and releasing it.”

Shah Rukh points out that while he is working on just one movie this year, Yash Chopra’s next with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, which, being a love story, wouldn’t require too much time from him, Rohit is a busy director. “He has to be free. May be we can start Chennai Express after Bol Bachchan, if he wants to. I never put pressure on my directors. It’s a big film, but we could finish and release it this year or early next year. Why would we wait until Eid 2014?” he questions.

Point out that maybe he wants to crash Salman’s Eid party, and Shah Rukh retorts, “I am not fighting with any other Khan. And I’m not a part of any media-generated controversy.”

Shah Rukh Khan and Murugadoss to work in Hindi version of Ramana

Chennai: AR Murugadoss’s Ramana is the movie that had created the bigger ripples in south film industry upon its release way back in 2002. The movie was liked by the audiences a lot that it witnessed many versions later. Now the latest about Murugadoss’ film is that the Hindi version is going to be churned out and the most important thing is that none other than the King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in to play the main lead.

Post the success of Don 2, Khan is on cloud nine. He is already a superstar and this movie has added more star power to his success badges. The film Ramana talks about the anti-corruption subject.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali had got hugely impressed by the movie and its response that he bought the rights of the film now and he is going to produce the remake of Ramana in Hindi. Sanjay wants Murugadoss to direct this venture. Shah Rukh Khan has said ‘yes’ to Bhansali and A R Murugadoss. After the confirmation from the King Khan, the paper work on the movie has been started. And soon we will hear the news of film’s going on floors.

A R Murugadoss made it confirm that he was going to direct this vehicle and he also confirmed that the talks with Shah Rukh Khan got finalized.

The Tamil movie Ramana featured Vijaykanth and Simran in the main roles and the Telugu version ‘Tagore’ starred Chiranjeevi and the Kannada version ‘Vishnu Sena’ featured Vishnuvardhan in the pivotal role.

Ramana revolves around the leading character who plans to eliminate the corruption from the roots of the society and for this he takes the helps of his students who are working in government jobs. The reason as to why he wants corruption to be eliminated is depicted in flashback.

DON2 first day first show in USA

Smashing second Monday of DON2

Don 2 had a solid second Monday as it collected around the 3 crore nett range as per early estimates. The collections are holding at multiplexes across the country. It is likely that the collections for the Hindi version will be around the 100 crore nett mark when the second week is over.

In West Bengal, Mysore and Tamil Nadu/Kerala it has turned out to be the biggest hit of 2011. In these three circuits it will emerge the biggest grosser ever after Three Idiots.

Overall the Hindi version of the film should cross the 115 crore nett of Ra.One (Hindi) while the 121 crore nett of Ready is likely to prove a stiff task.
