Whoever copies Dilip Kumar are idiots like me: SRK

Shah Rukh Khan, who was appreciated for the role of a doomed lover in 2002 remake of "Devdas", earlier played by Dilip Kumar in the 1955 film of the same name, feels nobody can imitate the thespian.

"You can't imitate Mr Dilip Kumar. Whoever copies Dilip Kumar, they are idiots like me," said Shah Rukh at the launch of Nasreen Munni Kabir's book "The Dialogue of Devdas", which has complete dialogues by Rajinder Singh Bedi, based on a screenplay by Nabendu Ghosh and lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi from Bimal Roy's immortal classic "Devdas".

Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Devdas" was treated differently by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who gave it a larger than life feel and the magnum opus had Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai as Chandramukhi and Paro respectively. The film won lots of awards.

Dilip Kumar could not make it to the event. However, he sent a letter and Shah Rukh read it out at the event at the Mehboob Studios.

After a decade of the film's release, Shah Rukh feels that it was stupid of him to go ahead and do "Devdas", which is a big screen adaptation of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel.

"I am not someone who would like to do something which has been so beautifully crafted. I have a very deep regard for the fact that my parents loved 'Devdas'. I was very young and stupid that I said yes and did it, but as I am getting mature, hopefully more intelligent, and perhaps would not be able to do it this time," the 46-year-old said.

The first Hindi director to adapt the book was P.C. Barua who made it with K.L. Sehgal, then came the Dilip Kumar's version in 1955, followed by the SRK starrer.

The superstar also feels he would have never mustered the courage to to be part of "Devdas" had he seen Dilip Kumar's version.

"Had we seen the film before making it, we would never had the guts to make it. Sanjay, Aishwarya and Madhuri we all felt that first we should finish the film then we should watch it," he said.

It is said that so far the novel has been made into films 15 times, including in languages like Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu and Assamese.

Shah Rukh Khan takes a dig at Farah Khan

At a recent event, unable to put a cap on his mercurial wit, Shah Rukh Khan ends up taking a dig at Farah Khan

It definitely wasn't his first. But in the wake of the great slap fest at Sanjay Dutt's party, Shah Rukh Khan's witty quip about Farah Khan at a recent product event did make us sit up and listen.

SRK has attended a zillion product events till date. And he has hardly ever left an opportunity to take a dig at his rivals, both professional and personal. And of course, he did not let the moment pass this time either. On Wednesday evening, at an event, SRK did not fail to bring up Farah in his funny quip about (Surprise! Surprise!) a play station.

An eyewitness revealed, "SRK chatted with the finalists and was dancing with them to music generated by a software system. But the songs got stuck due to some technical glitches in the system. The dance was being interrupted due to the breaking sound system."

And then is when, SRK chose to crack a witty one, taking a dig at Farah Khan in the process. "SRK who was irritated with the system error said, 'Play station ko lag raha hai ki Farah iske samne dance kar rahi hai, isliye yeh bar bar pause ho jaa raha hai (The Play station perhaps feels that Farah is dancing to its music and that's why it's throwing up errors).' In fact, the organisers had to finally stop the system and the music," added the eyewitness.

SRK's funny ways is not a new phenomenon for sure. In the past, the actor has openly taken digs at Aamir Khan at chat shows and award functions. On Karan Johar's chat show, for instance, when KJo asked him what he would say to a die-hard Aamir Khan fan, SRK had replied, "Guys, find an icon you can look up to." On the same show, when he was asked the same question about Salman, SRK, had simply said, "May God bless you."

However, SRK wasn't just into taking digs at the event. While the contest entailed only the winner for a trip to Berlin, SRK, seeing the runner up in tears, agreed to sponsor his trip as well.

Shah Rukh Khan: I Don’t Have A Lot Of Choice

At an recent event by Microsoft India and Don 2, actor Shah Rukh Khan was his usual witty and candid self with the winners and the media. After greeting the winners, who won a free trip to Berlin, SRK spoke about his roles and his years in the industry.

The hard worker that he is, he tries to create dream roles out of the roles he gets, he said. “I know a few people who came to Mumbai to become actors. Whenever they asked me about my plans, I used to say that I have come from TV and I will do any role I will get. I will work always and I will work for sixteen hours a day. My friends waited for a good role for twenty years and never got even one. I have been working for the past twenty years and probably even I couldn’t get a good role, but I got a lot of good work.”

But the superstar isn’t complaning about his body of work. Referring to his signature pose with his arms spread wide, he quipped, “Since, I have spread my arms, I have shrunk my circle of doing different characters. People say to me, spread your arms and do the romance. I don’t complain about it, it’s good to get paid for loving beautiful girls.”

Shahrukh Khan walks Berlinale red carpet with wife Gauri

The Bollywood badshah finally graced the city of Berlin with his royal presence to the extreme satisfaction of his fans. It happens at times. You acquire a glow after having braved a serious bout of cold and Flu. King Khan looked smart and cheerful while he walked the red carpet at Friedrichstadt-Palast, the venue of the DON 2 Berlinale premiere, in Berlin. He wore a formal Tuxedo, and looked healthier and heartier than ever before. Was it the effect of his autograph seeking fans who turned up in good numbers to cheer for him and to attend the film's screening at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival?

The King arrived in Berlin in style by a chartered flight following his advance guard Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, and Priyanka Chopra. He was not alone. Gauri Khan was with him as well at the Red Carpet in her smart red dress, looking ever youthful and 'fighting' fit. She could not have allowed her recuperating darling of a husband and doting father of her children to be all by himself in an extraordinarily cold Berlin weather. And what can be warmer than a caring, admiring, and beautiful wife next to you in these conditions to provide you the mandatory medicinal doses and to ensure that you have the muffler tightly tied around your neck.

Saif learns from Shah Rukh Khan

Actor Saif Ali Khan whose ambitious 'Agent Vinod' releases on March 23 is neck deep in post-production work.

The actor seems to be going the Shah Rukh way and is ensuring that no stone is left unturned in making this larger-than-life film truly larger than life - the actor is planning a huge promotional spree in the form of PS3 games, merchandise, comic books and what not! - just like Shah Rukh did for RA.One.

As if that's not enough, Saif seems to be selling Agent Vinod just Shah Rukh did 'G One' - as the Indian superhero. Saif says, "Agent Vinod is very Indian. I'm excited about the movie. I hope it becomes such a big hit and the people enjoy it so much that I get a chance to make a sequel to it."

Tell him SRK's RA.One didn't meet expectations, and he is quick to say, "You never know what works and what doesn't. It's all a learning experience. We all give everything we do our best shot, else why would we do it at all?"

MY NAME IS KHAN Completes Two Years

The celebration seems never ending at the Dharma camp, as the good news keeps pouring in. Dharma productions released their valentine’s special, ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ just a week after the stupendous success of Agneepath.
The movie has received a good response overall from all the major critics. Not only that, their movie ‘My Name Is Khan’ has completed two successful running years on February 12, 2012.

My name is Khan has definitely been a path breaker for the Dharma movies. Released in 2010, this movie was the highest grossing Bollywood movie, overseas. Starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, this movie became a huge blockbuster and managed to recover all the initial investment of 19 Million in just 3 days. The movie has also been a huge hit in the South Asian countries. The movie is still running successfully in a theatre in Hong Kong. The audience cannot stop themselves from praising the mind blowing performance of Shahrukh Khan. On the occasion of the second year anniversary of the movie, director Karan Johar admitted that the movie was a personal favourite of his. Karan in the micro blogging site, tweeted, tweet “MNIK is 2 years old 2day and is still running in a cinema in Honk Kong!!! It’s a film that is truly special to me...in many ways...”
Truly the movie has been loved and appreciated by the audience. Shahrukh Khan, with his performance, proved once again on why he claims the throne of Bollywood. After My Name is Khan, Karan Johar will don the Director’s hat again for his movie, ‘Students Of The Year’, slated for a summer release in 2012. Fans are eagerly waiting for the upcoming movie, to see if Karan can recreate the magic he had created with his last My Name is Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan About KKR, Juhi Chawla & Rest Of The Things

Why Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan & Aamir Khan Are More Than Just Superstars

In the last two decades Bollywood has seen a new breed of star kids emerge, from promising faces to one-hit-wonders. But, one word which is most used in the Bollywood dictionary is ‘Khans’ – Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir.

These three actors made their debuts between the late ‘80s and the early ‘90s and even after two decades, they still rule the box-office as well as hearts of Bollywood fans. Apart from their surname, Khan, and the superstar status, Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman have some more things in common. And these qualities set them apart from their contemporaries.

Consistency

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan have had their share of bad luck and failures. While Aamir had few, Shah Rukh some and Salman had a number of flop films; they always made a brilliant comeback. They never let failure take over their minds but learnt from their mistakes and didn’t repeat them. When Aamir’s film Mangal Pandey: The Rising failed in 2005, he made a strong comeback with hits like Rang De Basanti and Fanaa in 2006. Before his hit film Wanted (2009), Salman had spate of flops. Even Shah Rukh had a couple of flops like Paheli (2005) and Billu (2009).

Adaptability

Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir have been in the industry from more than twenty years now, but they look more fresh and contemporary with every passing year. All the three have adapted and maintained themselves with the changing scenario in Hindi films. Especially Aamir Khan, who surprises everyone with his changing looks according to the characters he plays.

Popularity

While Shah Rukh is probably the most well-known Indian face abroad, Salman Khan rules the hearts of the Indian masses. Aamir is not behind and is a well-known face as an actor-producer in international film circuits. His film, Lagaan, was nominated for the Academy Award in 2002 in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Lagaan was also listed by Time magazine among 25 best sports films made.

Reaching Out To The Small Screen

While Aamir will soon make his debut on Indian television, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have proved that they are not limited to a medium. Both Shah Rukh and Salman have hosted game shows Kaun Banega Crorepati and 10 Ka Dum respectively. On the other hand Aamir’s ads are always a treat to watch. Also, Salman and SRK have wide reach on television through their endorsements and stage shows that get televised. Not just that, Shah Rukh is also a highly entertaining stage show host, a skill that he has used to good effect in this year’s Filmfare awards.

Moneywise

Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir are among Asia’s highest paid artists. Be it films or advertisements, they are paid relatively more than their contemporaries. The fact is that it’s not easy to afford the Khans. But still, all three are also considerate when it comes to asking for their fees – they are all known to reduce their acting fees if they are co-producers on a particular project.

Social Work

Apart from their commercial success, all the three Khans are socially responsible citizens and use their star power effectively to help society. While Shah Rukh and Aamir are frequently seen in government campaigns, Salman is associated with a lot of charity work and his NGO, Being Human.

Entrepreneurs

All the three Khans are successful entrepreneurs. Shah Rukh owns a film production company called Red Chillies Entertainment. Aamir owns Aamir Khan Productions and Salman recently co-produced the film, Chillar Party.

We think these qualities differentiate the three Khans and make them more than just superstars.
